MT Waverley Cricket Club will be going in to bat for a cause championed by former Test bowler Glen McGrath.
Monash residents have been invited to attend a Mount Waverley Cricket Club's Sparking Afternoon Tea this Saturday to raise money for Pink Stumps Day.
The club's social rooms will be decked out in hot pink
and club president Brad Sheehan is encouraging residents to come along. "This is going to be good fun," he said.
Half of the $10 entry fee will go to the McGrath Foundation, as will all of the money made from sparkling wine sales. The club has already raised about $150 hopes to donate about $1000.
Mr Sheehan said the cause was one close to the club's heart. "I reckon everyone that we know, whether directly or indirectly, would have been affected by cancer in the past five or 10 years.
"The only way to try and address the issue of cancer is to support every initiative possible to build up the research to try and overcome the disease. Every little bit helps."
The day also coincides with Mt Waverley's first XI going head to head with the Oakleigh Cricket Club.
Mr Sheehan said the event was a good opportunity for his club to show locals it did more than just play sport.
"We try and put a little bit back into the community as well."
The match starts at 1pm and the Sparkling Afternoon Tea begins at 3pm. Cost: $10. Details: Mount Waverley Cricket Club website here.
