THE Brimbank Council affair is having a ripple effect across Melbourne and Monash councillors are not immune.

While the attention has been firmly fixed on the west, the comments by Liberal MP Inga Peulich in Parliament on Thursday have revived past incidents, rumours and allegations relating to several Monash councillors who, while not endorsed or supported by the party, are members of the ALP.

Is it fair, some of them ask, that they again have to respond, to answer when answers have been provided or

resolutions reached?

Maybe not, and indeed many of the council's rumour-mongering critics clearly have political motives.

But some of the matters appear not to have been investigated by an independent party.

Perhaps the investigation Ms Peulich seeks would, once and for all, give everyone the opportunity to start over with a clean sheet.

Then Monash Council will be able to get on with the job it is there for: to run the city for the benefit of everyone.
