THE Monash Gallery of Art will use new funding to promote photography through travelling exhibitions, an improved website and lectures across Melbourne.
The arts hub in Wheelers Hill will get $80,000 a year over three years from Arts Victoria.
MGA director Shaune Lakin said the additional funding would allow the gallery to deliver programs confidently and promote Victoria as a culturally vibrant and active place.
The MGA was opened in 1990 and is the only gallery in the country that is dedicated to Australian photography.
In the past year, the gallery has presented 78 public events including Art in the Park, a community day of art classes and entertainment that drew more than 500 visitors.
But the MGA's pride and joy continues to be the exhibitions drawn from its own collection, including work from internationally renowned Tasmanian photographer David Stephenson.
"With these exhibitions, we are really demonstrating our commitment to promoting and supporting the work of
Australian photographers," Mr Lakin said.
Next year the gallery will host a diverse range of exhibitions including contemporary and indigenous photos.
Mr Lakin said the MGA had a commitment to educating people about art.
"We believe that art plays an important role in helping people learn about and explore the world we live in."
The Monash Gallery of Art is at 860 Ferntree Gully Road, Wheelers Hill. Entry is free.
