Man charged over Mount Waverley drag race

30 Jan, 2012 02:44 PM
A WHEELERS Hill man has been charged with driving at a dangerous speed during an alleged drag race in Mount Waverley on Saturday night.

Police in an unmarked car from the Nunawading highway patrol stopped the man while he was drag racing another car southbound on Stephenson’s Road at 11.

Police allege that the man’s car was travelling at 148km/h, more than twice the speed limit.

The man, in his 20s, was also charged with engaging in a speed trial on a highway, and also with exceeding the speed limit.

Sergeant Colin Greenland of the Nunawading highway patrol said police are still conducting inquiries to find the driver of the second car and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with any information should contact the Nunawading highway patrol or Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000.
