Man charged over bashing

POLICE have arrested a man after a vicious assault in Oakleigh South left another man fighting for his life.

About 10pm last Wednesday, a 36-year-old East Bentleigh man was found unconscious by a passerby outside the Safeway supermarket at the corner of Warrigal and North roads.

Oakleigh crime investigation unit's Detective Sergeant Tom Arnot said the man was taken to The Alfred hospital with serious head injuries and was put on life support.

A 37-year-old Hughesdale man has been charged with one count of intentionally causing serious injury and has been bailed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates Court this Wednesday.

A 32-year-old Hughesdale man was released without charges pending further investigation.
