Local residents band together to Clean Up Oz

25 Feb, 2008 09:16 AM
MONASH residents will band together this Sunday to rid their neighbourhood of litter.

Clean Up Australia Day will be held at three Scotchmans Creek sites in Oakleigh and Mt Waverley: Damper Creek Reserve, Mulgrave Reserve and Brickmakers Park.

Monash Mayor Paul Klisaris urged residents to join in.

"Just turn up at one of our Clean Up Australia Day sites on Sunday with gloves, a hat, sturdy shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen and register as a volunteer."

He said bottled water was a particular blight on the environment, with the bottles creating 76,700 tonnes of landfill or litter in Australia.
