Lobbyists seek substance, no more 'hollow' plans

THE Eastern Transport Coalition believes the State Government has run out of excuses and must deliver when it releases its Victorian Transport Plan later this year.

ETC chairman Mick Van de Vreede said that for many years, people in Melbourne's outer east had been missing out on public transport projects, such as the Rowville rail link which would link Monash University and Mulgrave to the rail network.

"There's a huge expectation that the Government, at the very least, will have in their transport plan that they will undertake feasibility studies in the short term and construct projects like the Rowville rail in the medium term.

"I think the Government has run out of excuses in terms of reports."

Bus priority at all traffic lights and the upgrade of off-peak daytime, evening and weekend train services in the east are among a number of transport priorities on the Public Transport Users Association "wish list".

Outer east convener Jeremy Lunn said a lack of improvements for the east would insult outer east residents.

"If we don't see any improvements on the scale of those on our list, the exercise could only be dismissed as a real-life example of an episode from ABC's The Hollowmen."
