AN internationally renowned dance group will return this month for the second Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival in Glen Waverley.
The Khuan Yee Lion Dancers were a crowd favourite at last year's festival, which attracted more than 30,000 people.
The group will perform its award-winning traditional lion dance on top of 1.8-metre poles on a stage in Kingsway at noon and 6pm.
A Victorian group, The Lion Dance Troupe, will also perform at the festival.
Village Cinemas at Century City Walk will dedicate two of its screens to playing Chinese movies, including Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, during the festival.
A selection of historical and new police cars will be on display and children have been encouraged to take part in lantern painting.
Painted lanterns will be used in a closing parade at 7.20pm.
A variety of dance groups will strut their stuff on the main stage with styles ranging from Chinese to Irish, Bollywood, Latino and hip hop.
A karaoke competition will also be held to find Glen Waverley's best singer.
Festival organiser Vincent Chow said a big crowd was expected.
He said after the success of last year's festival, organisers were given permission by Monash Council to close off Coleman Parade and increase the number of events.
"There will be Chinese arts and crafts, a lantern dance and an area for children."
The Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival is on at Kingsway, Glen Waverley from noon-8pm on February 28.
