Leadership skills up for grabs

30 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM
MONASH Council is looking for a person with a disability who wants to be a community leader.

The council is seeking to sponsor a resident to take part in next year's Leadership Plus Program.

The program is a 12-month leadership development course in community education accredited through TAFE.

It aims to develop and promote people with disabilities as leaders.

The current Monash-sponsored participant, Bridget Jolley, said the program had been a fantastic way to improve her skills.

"I think the program really helps you learn how to be more involved in your community," she said.

Ms Jolley, who has been vision-impaired since birth, said others could get a lot out of the program.

Mayor Charlotte Baines said the program was creative and practical.

"It gives people the opportunity to talk to a cross-section of today's leaders, to hear their honest opinions and concerns and learn from each other's experiences," she said.

Details: 95183655.
