Lake: it's old news

29 Jun, 2009 10:34 AM
MONASH councillor Geoff Lake has hit out at "inaccuracies" in South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich's parliamentary attack on what she called the council's "ALP ruling faction".

"Each of the events referred to... has been widely reported on previously. There is no additional 'news' being raised.

"However, they are being presented in a malicious and factually inaccurate way using parliamentary privilege."

Cr Lake said he was reluctant to respond again to the matters "merely because they have been raised in Parliament by a political opponent", but said inaccuracies in Ms Peulich's speech included references to Cr Tom Morrissey being "forced to take out an intervention order" against him and that he had been "ordered by the Equal Opportunity Commission" to write a letter of apology to former councillor Kathy Magee after she complained of offensive comments.

"Cr Morrissey did not take out an intervention order against me in 2003 and has never taken one out against me. I was not ordered by the Equal Opportunity Commission to apologise, or to do anything else for that matter."
