Tonnes of paper and cardboard from Clayton shopping strip will go to a recycling plant rather than landfill.
In a deal with VISY recycling, Clayton traders will deposit waste in a three-cubic-metre bin and individual 1100-litre bins, which will be collected three times a week.
Clayton Traders Association president Bill Pontikis, pictured at the largest bin, said the project would clear Clayton's streets of strewn boxes and papers and be a boon for the environment.
"We're keeping our front and back yards clean."
