Trees down in storm
MONASH escaped most of the damage during last Thursday's wild weather. Waverley SES responded to 12 requests for help with fallen trees in Glen Waverley and Mt Waverley. There was also minor damage to some residential roofs. The outer eastern suburbs copped most of the damage, with Nunawading SES responding to more than 350 of the 950 calls for help received from 2.30-8pm.
Man demands cash
POLICE have appealed for witnesses to an attempted armed robbery at a chemist shop in Clayton Road.
About 1.40pm on November 13, a man showed a lone female attendant a large black-handled kitchen knife hidden in his jeans and demanded cash. He fled towards Centre Road when she said she could not open the cash register. A Caucasian, he was wearing a green shirt, blue jeans and a red hat with a Rip Curl logo. He was aged about 40. Pensioners robbed
POLICE are still searching for four people who stole money from two pensioners in Glen Waverley on December 30 last year. The money was taken from a bag attached to one pensioner's wheelchair at The Glen Shopping Centre. Information to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Mayor's term to end
CR Paul Klisaris's two-year reign as mayor of Monash will end when a new leadership group is voted in at a special meeting on December 9. Deputy mayor Charlotte Baines is widely expected to replace Cr Klisaris, who told the Journal he did not intend to run for the position again.
