AS the weekend's gloomy weather broke, it was Clayton's turn to shine yesterday.
Thousands swarmed to the fifth annual Clayton festival for free entertainment and rides and a taste of the suburb's multi hues of culture.
There was no shortage of activity, whether taking a six-metre harnessed plunge from a wall or admiring mountain bikers bunny-hopping between platforms.
It was also a day for community groups to show their wares while visitors enjoyed the entertainment from Indian, Mayan, Indonesian and Flamenco dancers and Bolivian folk bands.
Clayton Traders Association president Bill Pontikis said the festival was going from strength to strength.
"Look at all the different people. Clayton's a very multicultural suburb and it's important we make sure we respect every culture."
The festival had an environmental theme, showcasing the Clayton-based solar-car institute Aurora, which holds 10 world records for its solar car.
