IN a world-first, Monash Medical Centre doctors have fitted an adult pacemaker to a premature baby. Taylor, born at 26 weeks, had a heart blockage. Nine hours after she was born her heart began to fail and the pacemaker, which is bigger than her body, was fitted. It will keep her alive until she can be fitted with a more conventional pacemaker.
