A CHADSTONE resident who lives next to the Monash Freeway can't sleep and fears for her daughter's safety because of a lack of noise barriers along the freeway between Warrigal and Huntingdale roads.
Jennifer Jaeger says she worries that noise levels will only increase when the Monash expansion has been completed.
"We have great big wooden barriers, but the problem is that in some spots the barriers stop."
Ms Jaeger said noise from the freeway was constant.
"My daughter has been woken at three or four in the morning by trucks using their engine brakes. It has given her nightmares and I've had trouble sleeping at night."
Ms Jaeger said the lack of noise barriers near her house also caused security concerns.
"I'm the closest house to the freeway so whenever someone breaks down or has pulled over because they are drunk, they knock on my door.
"We once had a drunk lady thrown out of a car come knocking. She put her foot in my door and tried to break in, then she threw bricks at my window. My daughter and I were so scared we had to call the police."
Ms Jaeger also feared for her daughter playing in the front yard.
"The noise is so loud that if my daughter were running down the driveway and I was calling to her from the front door, she couldn't hear me."
Southern Metropolitan MP David Davis has tabled a petition about the issue in Parliament.
