Flavours of Oakleigh Festival a tasty treat

21 Mar, 2011 01:00 AM
A RELAXED atmosphere prevailed at the Flavours of Oakleigh Festival on Sunday.

The event showcased Oakleigh’s multicultural make-up with a celebration of cuisines from all over the world.

Under sunny skies, the smell of wonderful, disparate dishes wafted through the air. For the first time, the event featured a varied musical program.

Monash mayor Greg Male said that with 6.4 per cent of the local community born overseas, Flavours of Oakleigh was always a highlight. ‘‘Oakleigh is a great place to practise diversity. And today we’ve been absolutely blessed by the weather."

Anna Burke, Federal Member for Chisholm, told the crowd that the festival was magnificent, and got better every year.

“This says to everyone that Oakleigh is a great place to come and visit, not just for this festival, but every day,” she said.
