A long-awaited pumper tanker will help Vermont South's firemen such as Karl Smith and Jason Vaughan, pictured, to tackle fires in Dandenong Creek scrubland and beside the Monash Freeway.

Station officer Jamie Condon said the truck could hold 3800 litres of water and was a vast improvement on the previous 10-year-old model.
