EVER wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes at a police station or how emergency services operate?
The Glen Waverley police station's crew will team up with members from the Wheelers Hill fire brigade to open their doors to the public on October 11.
Displays will be on show from the State Emergency Services, St John Ambulance, Neighbourhood Watch, the traffic management unit, the dog squad unit, crime prevention office and the Police Historical Society.
Members of the historical society plan to bring a fully-restored 1962 Studebaker used by Wangaratta highway patrol, and a VL Commodore 1987 patrol car.
Secretary of the society and member of the living history group, Cesar Ziccone, said some members would dress up in 1960s uniform.
"There will be a display of hats relevant to the period, handcuffs and batons.
"In those days members wore jodphers and leggings.
"Corduroy balloon pants and gaiters were the traditional dress of traffic police; we'll have that on display." Mr Ziccone said there was no Glen Waverley police station in the '60s, but police from Oakleigh police station serviced the
area.
Glen Waverley police station, at 643 Ferntree Gully Road, will be open from 10am to 4pm, on October 11. Tours will be conducted every 15 minutes past the hour.
