After recent attacks at Clayton railway station, Monash
College journalism students Fang Chen, Shuyi Sun and
Kevin Chan Do asked whether the State Government was doing enough to protect international students from
violence.
Jeff Saunders (Australian), lecturer: '' It isn't. The Government should do more to protect them because India is our third or fourth export country. For moral and financial reasons, the situation must improve.''
Mwape Dysoh (South African), student: ``Not enough.
There are many cases where students have been attacked in the past but the Government didn't pay
much attention. The Government should treat everyone as national citizens.''
Beth Jabornik (Australian), science student: ``No. I think the Government should involve the police at
places like railway stations. Many years ago they should have educated people to be fighting racism''
Zaid Al-lawati (Middle Eastern), engineering
student: ``I don't think so. The Australian Government
has not put enough effort in, although it can assure safety for the population.''
