An 18-year-old driver was lucky to survive unscathed after losing control of his Falcon sedan in wet conditions on the Princes Highway, Oakleigh, last Wednesday. The car lost traction as it accelerated from the Ferntree Gully road intersection. It crossed sideways from a centre lane, careered over a median strip into oncoming traffic and struck a westbound vehicle. The car rebounded back across the median strip, knocking down a lightpole. Senior Constable Shannon Elston, of the Monash traffic management unit, said it was "extremely lucky" there were no injuries.
