Charges loom for man after 'police injured'

25 May, 2009 10:19 AM
A CLAYTON man could be up on a string of charges after causing injury to police while in custody for attempted theft.

About 6pm on May 19, police responded to a call about a man who had stolen property and abused staff at a Mt Waverley service station.

The man, 34, then went to a nearby residence, where it is alleged he caused more damage.

Sergeant Bernie Postma, of MtWaverley police, said that when officers arrived, the man resisted arrest and had to be subdued. He was taken to Oakleigh police station, where he caused injury to several officers.

The man has been released pending charges.
