SPORTS Without Borders, a program aimed at helping migrant youths get into sports, has taken a further step into Monash.
SWB chief executive James Demetriou said he had "encouraging" talks with Monash Council last week to discuss forming a partnership.
The deal could include council grants for sports equipment or travel and closer links with sports clubs.
Mr Demetriou said Monash residents would benefit greatly from the program.
"Monash is an important area to us because it has an increased concentration of people with refugee and migrant backgrounds.
"Being involved in the local community through sport can really help these kids engage with other people, make friends and build confidence."
A partnership with the council would involve in-kind support to deliver grants and programs, Mr Demetriou said.
"We hope to involve more than just the council.
"We want to have key local industries and schools involved and make it a total community partnership.
"In themselves the programs may be small but the cumulative effect for these youths and the community will be great."
A council spokesman said discussions with Sports Without Borders and Council were positive.
"The council is currently considering how it could support such a worthwhile program," he said.
Further discussions will be held in late September.
